E36
BMW#42
Mike Anderson built this E36 BMW for SCCA E Production, then developed it into a race-winning machine. The 2021 season produced five victories and one second-place finish.
A purpose-built
E Production BMW.
This was more than a converted street car. Mike built the E36 to compete in SCCA E Production and refined it race by race—turning the black-and-orange #42 into a consistent front-running car.
Five wins.
One second.
The work paid off in 2021. Across six finishes, the E36 took five victories and one runner-up result—a season that proved the car's speed, reliability, and the strength of its development.

Built, tested, refined.
Each race weekend added another layer of understanding. Setup, balance, braking, durability, and driver feedback all shaped the BMW into the race-winning package it became.

Built by the
driver who raced it.
Building the car created a direct connection between workshop decisions and performance on track. Mike could feel each change from the cockpit, evaluate it under race conditions, and bring that knowledge back into the next round of development.
The result was a BMW that combined careful preparation with the pace and consistency needed to win in E Production.

Continuous
development.
The E36 was never treated as a finished project. Its safety structure, driving position, controls, bodywork, weight, and serviceability were continually evaluated and refined to maximize performance on track.

Refined for
the next race.
The later photographs show how the finished car continued to change: cockpit ergonomics, braking hardware, bodywork, and race preparation were all revisited in pursuit of better performance and consistency.

A winning
machine.
The E36 carried Mike's familiar #42 and a purposeful black-and-orange livery. These images capture the car in the close racing and full-commitment conditions it was built for.

A breakthrough season.
Built from the ground up. Developed into a race winner.
The E36 project joined fabrication, preparation, development, and driving in one continuous effort. Five wins in 2021 were the proof.
